    There are various types of flash files out there. There is a 'flash'(the original factory default one), the 'reflash' (which does not cause youto lose any personal data) and the 'reflash mlp' (a reflash file minus the 'LP'or language pack included).If you ever flash or flex your phone or perform some other mod and it gets awayfrom you and your phone gets screwed up for whatever reason, flashing with amonster pack is a widely accepted cure all. Flashing with a monster packwill erase all your personal data from the phone like pictures, ring tones, etc.Head on over to to get the latest flashor monster pack. There is usually a long list of files there so look foryour carrier (like Cingular) first, then look for the most recent upload datesecond.

    If you wrote down earlier what you looked up on your phone, youwant to make sure you download software that is newer than what is currently onyour phone. The most recent monster pack file is the'S/W Version R374G0E.42.09RMOTOX.shx'. The most recent reflash fileis 'R374G0E.42.0ERreflashMOTOX.shx'.How do you tell when something is newer than what you have on your phone already?Simple, you just have to know how to count in hex. Here's a littlelesson: hex is short for hexadecimal. At its simplest, hex numbers arebase 16 (decimal, what we use in every day counting, is base 10). Insteadof counting from 0 to 9 and then going on to 10, we count from 0 to 9 and thenA through F before going on to 10. For example: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8,9, A, B, C, D, E, F, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 1E,1F, 20, 21 and so on.Are you ready to go?

    Did you back up anything you don't want to losefirst? A flash shouldn't delete anything, but if it stops unexpectedlypart way through or your computer loses power or the phone loses power or thedata cable becomes disconnected, anything could happen. Back up whateveryou added to the phone that you don't want to lose. All right, let's go.I am going to cover how to flash and flex with RSD Lite and with MFF.Maybe you'll have better luck finding one program over the other. I'llstart with RSD Lite first since it is a much easier program to work with.You will use the same steps for flashing your phone with a monster pack, flash(reflash) file, and a language pack. It takes about ten minutes to flashwith the monster pack. It takes about two minutes to flash a reflash.It will take about one minute to flash the language pack.In the image below I used a reflash file.

    You can see by the file namethat it is the '42.0ER' reflash. It can be used on any carrier's phone.This will only install a flash, it will not alter the flex.Launch RSD Lite. Then connect your phone (while it's turned on) to thedata cable. The program should detect your phone shortly.If your phone is not detected (and you are certain you have everythinginstalled), disconnect the data cable, then shut your phone off, and manuallyput it into bootloader mode. You do this by pressing and holding downthe '.' and '#' keys while pressing and holding down the on button until you seetext display on your screen.

    Now connect the phone back to the datacable.When your phone is connected you will see a message like the one below in thefirst line of the program's status area. Click the button labeled'.' And find where the flash is on your computer that you want to use.Click the 'Start' button. Now you should see what's displayed on thesecond line of text through the sixth line as the program processes each codegroup and does various other things. When it's finished you will see theline of text on the seventh line displayed. Click the 'Close' button andyou are done.

    Disconnect your phone from the cable and check it out. In the 'Flash Setup' section, check the 'Enable Flash' box and press the'Browse' button to locate the flash file you want to use. In my case Ilocated the 'R374G0E.41.C3RAreflash.shx'. You may have to extract itfrom a '.rar'.In the 'Preferences' section, make sure to check the 'Override existing phonesoftware even if it is newer than the superfile software', 'Master Clear phonesafter flexing' and 'Master Reset phones after flexing' boxes. Forreflashing with a reflash file and a language pack, 'Master Clear.' And'Master Reset.' Don't need to be checked.

    However, leaving them checkedstill won't touch the flex part of your phone.Now you're ready to start. Once you click the 'Start' button, you willsee the progress status in the 'Status' section.

    Your phone will go intoflashing mode. Don't touch anything from this point on! Wait until yousee the 'Successful Flash!' Message.After I hit the 'Start' button the 'Found New Hardware Wizard' popped up lookingfor the 'Motorola Flash Interface.' Once again I told it to install the driversautomatically. It found the files and finished.

    In the mean timethis caused MFF to abort and not flash correctly.I hit the 'Start' button and did it again. In the 'Status' column severalmessages were displayed one after the other like what RSD Lite displays.When you see the success message, it's safe to close the program and disconnectyour phone. You will find your phone already turned off.

    Restart yourphone. Now you have a new flash and or language pack installed on yourphone. Turn your phone on and press thekey, press'Settings' press 'SELECT' scroll down to 'Phone Status' press 'SELECT' scrolldown to 'Other Information' press 'SELECT' and now you can view your'S/W Version' which should have upgraded to 'R374G0E.41.C3RA' in thisexample.I would not upgrade a bootloader until you absolutely had to. I findthe video camera will not work until you have bootloader '08.23' installed.Go to and download thefile 'RAZR V3 R374 NEW BOOT LOADER 08.23' and then follow the same flashingprocedure. Select 'Browse' and load the bootloader flash file.

    I have a similar thing going on. 6 month old v3i, unlocked.

    It's my 16 year old daughter's, so it probably has been bounced around. I can turn it on, but I can't get most of the keys working most of the time. And the red key won't turn it off. I've looked for the master reset instructions, but can't find them anywhere. I've pulled the battery and sim overnight-no change. What I would really like to do is to save the contacts and other stuff off of the phone memory for her before either resetting it, sendingit in to get repaired, or replacing it. I can't get the bluetooth turned on to use iSync, like I had it set up for, and I can't get MPT to work via the USB cable-the same old XP usb problems that everyone else reports.

    So, any advice?Thanks, Jim. Click to expand.The USB trick probably won't work, even if you had the right drivers on your computer. The contacts should be fine if they are stored in the SIM card, but contacts in the phone are probably lost forever. The phone shoulud still be under warranty if its 6 months old. You say its unlocked so I guess you did not buy it from your carrier. Try contacting whomever you bought the phone from, but my guess is that you will probably have to send it directly to Motorola for warranty service.-Jay.     Its not easy i had to download a bunch of programs and then i finally got to download MPT. I dont know why it isnt working. This one dont have a virus becuase if it did my computer would have been messed up already. The only thing I cant do it save and transfer to phone. When i click save the window flashes and nothing happends, and when i hit transfer nothing happends.

I've seen virus infections on computers before that did little things before the whole thing came crashing down. Ashley is also correct that it is against this forum's rules to condone or support illegal software. You also have to consider that if your Mom does not want you to buy a legitimate copy then she probably does not want you to screw up the family's phones. Does she know that you are now trying to make an illegal copy of the software work on the computer? Probably not.

    But I think we're all a little smarter than that.The only suggestion we have for you is that you buy a LEGIT copy of Moto Phone Tools then we will be more than happy to assist you with any problems you have. If you're too young to afford it on your own, or your mother won't let you purchase it, you're only option is to wait til you're old enough to get a job, and be responsible, OR find another person/forum who doesn't have the moral upstandings or common sense to do/know better.Ash.
